CHENNAI: There has been a lot of speculation of late that this is MS Dhoni’s last season as a player in the IPL. But the Chennai Super Kings captain, in a programme celebrating 75 years of India Cements, all but made it clear that he will play at least one more season.
When asked by one of the India Cements dealers as to why he didn’t wait for a farewell match for India before announcing his international retirement on August 15, 2020, the CSK captain said: “There couldn’t have been a better day to make the announcement. And you will get a chance for a farewell match hopefully when I play for CSK in Chennai.”
It means that Dhoni will play for CSK next season when a new team is formed. There will be fresh auctions at the end of this season and there were doubts whether the captain, after a not-so-good season with the bat, may not play another year.
But CSK management has always maintained that Dhoni will oversee the transition of CSK as a player and that would mean that he would play the next season in India. And now that Dhoni himself has mentioned that he wants to play his farewell match in Chennai should be good news for the CSK fans.
The captain also added that the reason behind the consistent success of the team is the fact that they always focus on the process instead of the results. “We plan well and try to ensure that the process is right and don’t think too much about the results. That helps us do well…And the success of CSK is not just about me, it is about the fact that we have a great team in place,” he said.
